Meet Hannah Braun from The Classroom Key

Hi there! I'm Hannah and I blog over at The Classroom Key.  I'm so excited to collaborate with a great group of other 2nd grade bloggers!

I was a teacher-librarian for three years and a 2nd grade teacher for five years.  Right now I'm staying home with my 1-year-old son.  I also have an 8-year-old daughter.  My life as a military wife has allowed me to work with kids in Colorado, California, and Utah.  I also enjoy card making, home decor, and time with my family (including my Boxer, Chuck!)

For Make It Monday, I'm sharing an activity my 2nd graders have loved year after year.  If your students loved The Mixed Up Chameleon by Eric Carle or if you're studying animal characteristics then this activity is perfect for your class.

 FREE Mixed Up Chameleon Craftivity

Here's how you make it:

Click on the picture above to download the activity for free.

1.  Make several copies of the animal pieces page, preferably on card stock since they will serve as templates.  Cut the template pieces out.

2.  Students trace the pieces they want to use on old magazine pages and cut them out.

3.  Student glue the pieces into a new animal on a piece of construction paper.

4.  Students complete the writing activity where they name their new animal, determine the habitat it is suited for, what activities it would be good at, and what would be difficult for it.  They glue their writing to the bottom of their animal background page.

There you have it!  There are lots of different combinations of animal parts that kids come up with.  It makes a great science integration if you're talking about animal characteristics and their functions.

Have fun with it!

  1. Hi Hannah! I love Chuck! Thanks for sharing this craft. We use the story at the beginning of the year when we talk about being yourself. I like the idea of making the animal parts out of magazine pages. Have a great week!-Lisa
