EASY Excel Charts for Tracking Student Data

Hi there!  It's Hannah from The Classroom Key.  I hope you're enjoying your summer!

For Make It Monday I'm sharing how to make charts in Excel to track student data.  This is particularly handy for documenting Response to Intervention.  The people involved in making referrals to special education love to see data and graphs.

Stick with me; it's not hard at all!

1.  First, open Excel (I'm using Office 2013 in this tutorial).  Open a new blank workbook.

2.  Type the scores you want to display in column A.  The oldest score goes first because this will be first on the graph.

3.  Click over to the insert tab.  In the section labled "charts" hover over the insert line chart.

4.  Several chart styles will drop down.  Choose the style that you like.

5.  If you click on the chart, more customizing options are available.  Click on the plus sign to the upper right of the chart and check any elements you would like included.

6.  To change the chart title or axis labels, just click on them and type.

7.  You can change the color of the line and the data points by right clicking on the line.

To print just the graph without the background grid, make sure you have clicked on the chart to select it, and then print.

Now get out there and prove your case with some sharp looking data!
