Back to School Organization Goodies

Hi y'all!  This is Stephanie from The Learning Chambers.  I've been missing from the iTeach Second blog this summer, but I'm very excited to get back to blogging with some fabulous second grade teachers.  I have so many wonderful ideas and I can't wait to share them with you guys this school year.

I have just 15 days left of my summer, so my teacher brain is back almost back in full swing.  I can't get back into my classroom until August...so in the meantime, I've been busy making lists, getting organized, and creating things for my classroom.  I'm also refinishing some of my old classroom items using spray paint.

Click on the picture to read about it on my blog.

Another thing that I LOVE about getting organized are labels.  I'm relabeling my old supply tubs and I can't wait to share how they turn out in August.  I decided to use the sky blue Avery Labels that are in the top left corner.  You can click HERE to grab them for FREE.

I would LOVE to help you get organized for back to school.  Check out these goodies that you could win to help with back to school time.
Plus, your choice of a set of my labels!

Good luck!  Enter using the Rafflecopter below!

Wiggle It!

Happy Wednesday, everyone! It's Lisa from Second Grade Stories, back with another fun post here at iTeachSecond - and with a little Win - It Wednesday!

We are AL-MOST there! Yes, folks, while I know many of you are already enjoying summer vacation, I teach in one of the places still chugging along... June 19 is our last day and right now that seems like FOREVER!

I know this close to the end of the year, my kiddos are really in need of movement activities and breaks all day long. And that's actually been true for most of the year! I have found that since I started really incorporating brain breaks into our schedule in a purposeful way, I can keep my little ones focused longer and get them back on track by having a little break.  I'm a big fan of GoNoodle, The Learning Station and other websites like that, but sometimes I just want a quick one minute activity that breaks the wiggles and allows for a quick bit of downtime.  I have a set of popsicle sticks in my room with brain breaks, but I was poking around Etsy one day when I came across these cuties from a shop called "the idea box kids":
https://www.etsy.com/shop/theideaboxkids
What is it? It's a Wiggle Box!  There are 40 double sided wooden coins, each with a fine or gross motor movement.  They are PERFECT for when you just need a little something to change the pace.  You can reach in the box and pull out, one, two, three.... do them one at a time or put them together in sequence for a fun motor break! And the best part is - every time is different!

I have to say, my kiddos LOVED these! I had our Helper of the Day pull out a couple to do while we were waiting in line for a couple minutes - instant attention and focus! Later, we pulled out four of them and created our own dance party moves.  Easy peasy!

Jennifer is the owner of "the idea box kids" and she  also has other boxes that are great for other fun times. Her "Teacher Box" has 60 quick little time fillers that are great for when you have just a few minutes to spare.  Play "Guess the Voice," "Practice Math Facts" or "Pretend You are Melting!"

The coins and the box are small enough to keep anywhere in your room - and you could even put them in a small bag and grab them as you head out the door to an assembly, activity or anywhere you might have a few extra minute.

The coins come in a cute little brown box.
https://www.etsy.com/shop/theideaboxkids
(Yes, I bought the Teacher Box, too!)

Here it is when it is first opened:
https://www.etsy.com/shop/theideaboxkids
I love the little "fun" reference! Jennifer talks about her boxes being "secretly educational" along with creative and fun! And she has tons more boxes to choose from - there's an Adventure Box, a Story Box, a Scavenger Hunt box, a Quiet Box... I had a hard time deciding which one to purchase!

When I contacted Jennifer to tell her how my kiddos enjoyed her boxes, she generously agreed to give a box away to one lucky winner!  Just enter using the rafflecopter below and you could win your choice of a regular Idea Box ($17.99 value!) for you!  And if you want to check out Jennifer's Etsy shop, click HERE or on any of the images in this post.

The giveaway will run from today through Sunday, June 7. Good luck! And a special good luck wish to those of you still in school! Hang in there - summer vacation is coming soon!

Colorful Classroom Stuff: Creative Lesson Cafe

Hey there second grade friends! It's Jeannine from Creative Lesson Cafe.

I am so excited and honored to be a part of this amazing group of teachers here at iTeach Second! I'm here to tell you a little bit about myself and to bring you a YAY for the end of the year GIVEAWAY!

Over at my blog, I write about a little bit of everything from teaching tips... to project ideas... to best practices and MORE! I like to share bright ideas and things I have learned through experience.
You are just in time for the reveal of my brand new and very COLORFUL blog design.
 I sure would love to have you stop by!

I currently teach second grade in a large suburban public school district in Michigan. This is my 25th year in the classroom! I've taught mostly primary grades (K-2). Because I have a masters in counseling, I have also worked as a school counselor and science/math teacher at the middle school level. I love working with kids of all ages.

I am a proud mom to one amazing young man. It's been just the two of us for a long time, so he is my world. We even went to school together for a few years because I teach at our neighborhood school. He will be a senior in high school next year. I can't believe my baby will be off to college soon! I am trying to mentally prepare myself for this new phase in life...

I keep very busy as you can imagine with running a household, teaching, blogging and creating, so I do not have much free time at all. When I do squeeze in some fun, I enjoy family time, coffee drinks, vacations, shopping, eating out and all summertime things.

 For me, the best part about teaching, other than my adorable littles, is having the freedom to be creative with my classroom lessons. I really enjoy designing my own activities around seasonal teaching themes. The spectacular four seasons we enjoy in Michigan is perfect for my style of teaching.

 I am so lucky to work in a beautiful school with great kids and supportive parents.

All of the schools in our district are named after Native American tribes. Our school has some fantastic artwork throughout the halls.
Although it's been a wonderful year, work is pretty STRESSFUL right now with assessments, report cards, data entry and all of that end of the year stuff. I'll be SO happy when June 11th comes around!

 I'm sort of in that gray area.
Hopefully none of you are in the red!
 To help to keep a smile on your face, I have a colorful little GIVEAWAY planned!

Two lucky winners will each get one of these prizes! I picked these because they are things that I have had on MY wish list!
I hope you like them too!

1.  The Creative Paper Box by Creative Clips Paper!

This set of teacher stationery is amazing. I just love the bold colors and the designs. In the set are note cards, envelopes, large and small note pads, postcards, and MORE!

  2. A personalized pencil door sign of your choice from Tallahatchie Designs!

 Isn't this the cutest??? I just bought one for each of my teaching partners for an end of the year gift! There are lots of fun colors to choose from. I picked out purple pencils with chevron, brights and zebra print ribbons!
The winner will get to personalize their very own door sign!

Do you like them as much as I do?

You can use the Rafflecopter below to enter to win!

$100 Teacher Appreciation Giveaway!

Give me a T! Give me an E! Give me an A! Give me a C! Give me an H! Give me an E! Give me an R! What’s that spell? TEACHER! Hooray! Hooray! Teacher Appreciation Week is almost here, and just when we all need it the most! Let’s face it, the end of the year can be exhausting as it’s often filled with extra activities, events, grading … and dare I mention the never ending testing?!? With all this on our plates, no wonder we sometimes start to feel overwhelmed and underappreciated. Here at iTeachSecond, we can relate because we’re in the same shoes as you. We know that second grade teachers wear so many more hats than just their “teacher” hat, especially towards the end of the year. In fact, we wrote a silly poem about it to share with you. Here goes…

We hope our humor helped lighten your load and put a smile on your face. To show you even more appreciation, we want to continue celebrating by giving away $100 worth of gift cards to the places we love to shop at most.

You can enter on the Rafflecopter below from April 26th to May 2nd. On Sunday, May 3rd we’ll announce and celebrate our four winners here on the blog and via email to kick off Teacher Appreciation Week!

Michelle wants you to FLIP that SOUND!

Hey there, lovies!  It's Michelle Tomaszewski again from Michelle + the Colorful Classroom.  At this very moment, I'd love for you to visualize lights, sparkle, and energy - the personable Pat Sajak along with the stunning Vanna White dressed to the nines - with a lively audience exuberantly chanting... "Wheel...of...FORTUNE!" ::cue the game show music::  Okay, now let's make some adjustments... We'll keep the lights, sparkle, and energy because I'm all about that life.  However, now you're left with me in my yoga pants loudly whispering: "FLIP... THAT... SOUND!" (Ya know, I don't want to scare the neighbors...)

Guys!  It's Win-It-Wednesday!  I wanted to offer you the opportunity to win my "Flip the Sound: OW {like in snow + in cow}" Phonics Pack.
Let's face it...the English language is confusing.  Teaching children how to read can certainly be challenging with so many *exceptions to the rule*.  One reading strategy I teach my students when decoding tricky words is to "flip the sound" {perhaps you've met my friend, "Flippy Dolphin"}.  Sometimes a vowel, consonant, or even consonant cluster can make more than one sound.  If one sound doesn't make sense, FLIP IT and try another.  I have these posters hanging in my room at all times for students to reference during our small group reading time... and trust me, they use them!
{Side note: OW, OO, EA are all currently available in my TpT store.  OU is in the works!
Other "Flip the Sound" packs will be brought to you this summer...so be on the look out!}
Along with the cutesy-tootsy reference posters, this practical pack includes several different components and plenty of differentiation options:
SAY IT: Students may read from OW word lists. {"ow" like snow, "ow" like cow, & mixed}
READ IT: Students may read original {somewhat silly} OW decodable stories. {"ow" like snow, "ow" like cow, & mixed}
SPELL IT: Students may cooperatively read from an assortment of word cards in partnerships and practice spelling the words on a recording sheet.
PASTE IT: Students may cut, sort, and paste letter tiles to complete OW words.  I always remind my students not to paste until the end, as some tiles may "work" in more than one place. {"ow" like snow, "ow" like cow, & mixed}
WRITE IT: Students may record their own OW sentences as an extension for independent practice.
FIND IT: Students may be word detectives and hunt for OW words in the books they are reading with a special recording sheet.
SORT IT: Students may sort OW word cards {1 syllable and multi-syllable options for differentiation} on a sorting mat.

As you can probably imagine, the "mixed" activities are more challenging than those just focusing on one sound, so choose what's right for you and your kiddos.  Additionally, I always allow my students to color code the vowel sounds with highlighters as another phonics strategy.
...now what are you waiting for?!  Enter this week's giveaway, so you TOO can FLIP THAT SOUND!  To enter, simply reference the Rafflecopter and leave a comment in this blog post {before May 4th at midnight, Cinderellas!}; 10 lucky winners will be randomly chosen to receive this goodie!

Giveaway with Shelly Sitz

Hello!  I am Shelly Sitz from Smiling and Shining in Second Grade.    I am so excited to be part of this collaborative group of teachers!

I have been teaching for 27 years.   I taught kindergarten for 18 years and second grade for 9 years.  I love teaching second grade!

I have 2 grown children and 2 furry kids--Lexi and Hunter.  They love going for walks and playing fetch.  Lexi was a stray at our school so I adopted her. Six months later we adopted Hunter because he needed a new home and Lexi needed a playmate.  She is like the energizer bunny--she keeps going and going!

Dave and I love to travel when we have the time.  Here are a few pictures of our latest travels.  I recently bought a new camera and I can't wait to use it on our next vacation!  (First I need to figure out how to use it.)

My monthly Daily Practice for second grade is the perfect way to keep skills fresh in students' minds.  They are a great spiral review for math and language arts.  I can walk around the room when the students are completing their work and informally assess them and identify which students need extra help in a skill.  You can enter the Giveaway of my April and May Daily Practice in the Rafflecopter below.

You can click on the picture below and it will take you to my TPT store.  Click on the preview for your free sample pages.
